For the players to cure their cockiness!

The 59-year-old revealed he has made his feelings known to the players and believes they may have suffered from over-confidence against Southampton after a strong showing to win 3-1 at Crystal Palace the previous weekend.

Here's the full interview, for anyone that's interested. Laugh? I nearly shat..

..................

Sam Allardyce turns to psychologist to cure West Ham’s ‘cockiness’

Sam Allardyce is to consider introducing a psychologist at West Ham in an attempt to eradicate any “cockiness” from his players.

After he saw his side let a lead slip in defeat to Southampton before the international break, Allardyce claimed a few needed to have their “backsides kicked” for a failure of communication on the pitch.

The 59-year-old revealed he has made his feelings known to the players and believes they may have suffered from over-confidence against Southampton after a strong showing to win 3-1 at Crystal Palace the previous weekend.

“The expectation after that (Palace) game was high and we just didn’t live up to it,” he said.

“Maybe the players were a bit too cocky. Maybe they had listened to the praise too much. The outside world is not what you should listen to if you want to be successful as a footballer.

“You can be distracted if you get too much praise and perhaps a little put off if you get criticism. They just need to stay focused on their responsibilities.”

Having worked with a psychologist in the past and, with Dr Steve Peters making strides with both Liverpool and England in recent months, Allardyce admits he may go down a similar road to better his side.

When asked if he already had a psychologist in place, Allardyce said: “Not at the moment.

“But I am thinking of looking at that again to get the players’ frame of mind right. It is obviously very important.

“We had a real problem against Southampton. There was a problem retaining information. We lost the game on not covering two set plays and that was a real kick in the teeth for me.

“We do a lot of practise with the players - on their iPhones and their iPads. We clearly didn’t do things correctly and that was a major let-down for me.

“That all boils down to when a player is on the field taking responsibilities a lot more seriously than they did against Southampton. There is no logical reasons for them doing what they did.”

New signing Alex Song could make his Hammers debut as Allardyce looks to return to winning ways at Hull on Monday night, with the Barcelona man seen as an ideal man to bring out more from players on the pitch.

“Other players look up to a player like him,” Allardyce said.

“They will all get lifted by a player like him who has played consistently at the top level. That is the type of reaction we are looking for from a player like him.

“He is a world class player and just by their attitude it shows the other players what they have to try and achieve. The one thing about Alex is he just wants to play football. Playing for Barcelona is fantastic, but it’s not fantastic when your not playing - it’s just miserable.”

Dickise I believe sand is a wind up poster.

We lose more games than we win under fatty. He's simply not up to it.

The fat one is a fackin idjit. If he REALLY thinks anyone is buying his bullshit then I make Alf right i.e. Sam has lost his marbles. I don' t think for one moment the players 'forgot' instructions... MY guess is they got an arrogant faceful of Sam (and prob Nolan too) at half time in that game, and they came out for the second half looking lobotomised and miserable from the off i.e. he pissed them off, they got him back. FACT: you cannot survive as ANY sort of manager if you keep blaming your staff. Day' s a comin'...

I hope you're joking?!?!...

You do realise that we're a bigger club than half the teams in this division and we've spent the vast majority of our time in the top-flight since the late-1950s when we went-up with Liverpool?!?!...

Always baffled me that some of our fans think that they support some two bob poxy outfit...

We wouldn't be moving to a 54k-seater ground if that were the case...

Our league record is - we stayed in the league - and that is an amazing achievement on our resources.

It's early days for this team and a trip to Hull on a Monday night is not the game to judge Sam on. Perhaps have a look at the play off game or the results against spurs if you want to judge him.

Re: BFS ordered therapy...
If we play poorly again tomorrow night and lose - especially if it's 2 or 3-0 or something - then Fat Sam will come under some very heavy criticism from the fans and in the press...

And rightly so...

Our league record in the calendar year of 2014 is fucking awful...

Re: BFS ordered therapy...
I'm sure he will give them a massive bollocking and they will come out fighting tomorrow.

I predict a strong battling defensive performance and if the ball bounces nicely for us at a goal entry we might be able to take the three points.

The performance against Southampton was purely down to poor set plays and Sam is an old master at these so will have really drilled it into his new team and we won't see that sort of thing again.

Re: BFS ordered therapy...
It is a fundamental that a manager has to ensure that his team, whatever the gap in class etc., is up for the challenge. From what I gather about yesterday's game at Southampton Pardew has failed in that task [ like he did with us funnily enough ] and he is a dead manager walking now.

BFS had better make sure we're up for it tomorrow. Teams can lose but demonstrate their competitiveness but any sign of being unmotivated will count strongly against him.

Re: BFS ordered therapy...
Their attitude was poor?
My take was more that they got a complete and utter chasing from a massively superior Southampton & unfortunately under this pressure their concentration went and Southampton took advantage.
To be honest they should have been 3 up by the time the error for the second goal happened & 0-5 would have been an accurate reflection of the match.
BFS is concentrating on the result of the problems not the cause.
I think we know why that is.

And what was the fat fuck's excuse for the League Cup embarrassment? Oh yeah, he forget to mention it yet again. It never happened.

Someone mentioned third season and I think competition for places is part of that scenario.

Re: BFS ordered therapy...
Well competition for places should concentrate our players minds a bit more now.

Dapablo 1:18 Sun Sep 14
Re: BFS ordered therapy...
The winning team from the Palace were allowed to keep their places as team ethics often allows a manger to do.

They failed badly the second game because their attitude was poor, changes will be made. He might be bluffing about our two latest sigings he might not. To many changes at once is risky, it can suceed but often it falls on its face, we do know that don't we.

Re: BFS ordered therapy...
We lost because they were the better team on the day. They had more possession and they capitalised.

Two goals from set plays but we gave up the fouls for them. It's worth addressing that issue as much as the conceding IMHO.

yes, the result was nothing to do with the cunt starting cole and the players looking unfit

Re: BFS ordered therapy...
We were absolutely awful against Southampton...

We were lucky that it only ended 3-1... Could've and should've been 4 or 5-1 and Southampton didn't even have to work that hard...

They nearly scored a few times as a result of abject defending from set-pieces and crosses into the box...

Just hope that we see a response tomorrow night...

Dapablo 1:04 Sun Sep 14
Re: BFS ordered therapy...
No he's saying we lost becasue our heads were up our arses, the players weren't switched on and we conceded through two set plays.

They weren't up for it though were they, they didn't look like they were to me either, the loss was nothing to do with tactics or style of play but in attitude.

Arko 1:00 Sun Sep 14
Re: BFS ordered therapy...
You know that it is always about excuses with Allardyce. Of course you can blame two setpieces on losing a game if your whole game plan is centered around not conceding and nicking ONE goal yourself.

What happens when we score and have a lead ? We don't strive to add to the load and score one or two more, we sit back, invite pressure and more often then not get a draw or even defeat from a winning position.

Allardyce is not a positive manager. Or tactics are negative and defensive and so is our mindset.
That translates to the players.
I'm not disputing we might actually have good team spirit. But i don't believe our players are all enjoying our football these days...
